Quinte West Geocaching - Events

What

An exciting first time geocaching weekend event in Quinte West! This is a great opportunity to meet fellow geocachers and to learn about the sport of geocaching. Several new caches will be placed for the event.

Rough camping available nearby the Batawa Ski Hill within a five to ten minute walking distance. N44 10.420 W077 35.771. Portable Bathrooms will be available at group area campground. For those not intending to camp there are available hotels nearby. Please contact Quinte West Tourism at 800-930-3255 for questions. Please clarify the number of campers and camp units when registering on geoaching.com so we can adjust and allow space accordingly .

A premier trackable Event Geo-Coin has been minted (250 total) for this event and will be on sale Saturday following group photo, be sure to get yours. You must have paid registration to event in order to purchase the commemorative coin.

Camping and Event Location will be at Batawa Ski Hill with other planned events nearby.

Who

Everyone (young and old) interested in the sport of geocaching including friends and family. All new geocachers are welcome and are encouraged to come learn from veteran geocachers.

Why

Quinte West is a natural attraction and this a great opportunity to showcase some of the outdoor recreation activities offered. This is a great way to see what the local area has to offer. Come for a day or come for the entire weekend and meet many area geocachers in a social gathering.

Friday, Sept. 26th 2008:
Evening Meet and Greet
Location: Meet at Duncan's Place Restaurant and Sports Bar - N44 06.891 W077 35.827
Time: 6:30 p.m.

Night time Caching: For those unafraid of caching in the dark. There will be 2 night time event caches placed as part of the Quinte Geocaching Adventure Challenge.
Golden Fireflies Challenge (QGAC-01)
Silver Fireflies Challenge (QGAC-02)
Time: after 8:30 PM

Saturday, Sept. 27th 2008: Location: Batawa Ski Hill - N44 10.009 W077 35.807
8:30 a.m. - Registration Booth Opens (Please give the volunteers time to set up)
9:00 a.m. - Welcome
9:30 a.m. - Days caching events begin. Several caches have been placed for this event on site as well as around the local area. Noon Break for lunch on your own time.
2:30 p.m. - Planned children and family activities (geared for kids that are too tired to continue on with caching for the afternoon)
5:30 p.m. - 6:30 p.m. - Head back to Batawa Ski Chalet for planned supper BBQ (Included in registration costs)
6:30 p.m. - Group Photo at the Batawa Ski Chalet. Event Coin sale following group photo.
8:30 p.m. - Bon fire (more info to follow)

All are invited to the group camping area to socialize at the end of the bon fire. Bring your own roast sticks and snack!

Sunday, Sept. 28th 2008: Location: Batawa Ski Hill (Main event location and group camping area)
10:00 a.m. - Event wrap up with prizes and closing ceremonies
12:01 p.m. - C.I.T.O (voluntary cleanup) to be carried out around main event location and group camping area.

Camping space is available with registration but limited. Additional camping space with full services (showers, water, washrooms, hyro) are available approximately 3 miles from Batawa in the Frankford Tourist Park in Frankford, ON. Camping fees at this location are not included with registration costs and rate information is available, and reservations, at the City of Quinte West at 613-392-2841.
